Heaton is hugely popular with students and young professionals alike, all rubbing shoulders with a more arty local population and families. There’s an eclectic mix of shops and a very friendly, multicultural feel to the area.
Chillingham Road High Street is a buzzing shopping area with fantastic independent restaurants and cafes, spanning numerous cuisines, adding to the multicultural vibe. It also provides everyday necessities such as a Tesco, Boots and grocery store.
Heaton Road is café central with a number of great places to while away the weekend and afternoons. Cafe One 20 bakes a huge range of the greatest cakes around whilst the Butterfly Cabinet is a local staple serving up all day breakfasts and huge, mouthwatering burgers while the Sky Apple Cafe offers some of the best vegetarian and vegan food around.
Access to the city centre is good, with both a Metro stop and everyone’s old favourite, the Number 1 bus. It is also possible to walk into town or to Jesmond if you ever get tired of the local culinary offerings or fancy a bit of retail therapy. You can also enjoy a bit of nature in the beautiful Heaton Park for picnics and lazy sunny days or frosty winter walks.
